Did you know that one bus can replace 30 cars on the road? Early Engineers learned this and more exciting facts about energy with this week's LEGO Clean Air Bus!
This week we learned about renewable energy sources: these are resources that can be renewed or replenished in a short period of time. Renewable energy is also called “clean” or “green” energy, because it does not pollute the air or harm the environment. As the demand for energy increases, renewable energy will play an important role in supplying the world's clean energy needs.
While most vehicles on the road use fossil fuels — non‐renewable petroleum energy sources — there is growing interest in alternative fuels such as biodiesel, electricity, ethanol, hydrogen, propane, and natural gas. Many cities are switching to buses that run on these alternative fuels: this will help decrease pollution and smog, creating cleaner air for the population.
Our LEGO Clean Air buses were designed to accommodate as many riders as possible, to get more cars off the road! Some builders even installed bike racks and other environmentally friendly details to their vehicles, while others built roads for their transportation fleet to move through. We think you 'll agree that this week's build provided valuable lessons on best environmental practices, and got our group of young innovators thinking about how to address the challenges facing our cities and roadways of the future.
